EDB RJC Entre Challenge.  Wa! The judges comment damn fierce sia…
But they make sense, and I learnt a lot form all their questions. Makes me wonder why we didn’t think of those points before the presentation.

Went back RI to help with NDP parade rehearsal.  The NPCC parade commander was damn funny, he used “Pagi-Pagi” to refer to flag party. When I heard him shout I was thinking of replying “good morning”
I’m sure panji-panji can pronounce until pagi-pagi lah.

I wonder how my school’s flag party will be like…

X-site

Posted in Life, School tagged , at 6:36 pm by incstint

X-site was not xsiting at all.

Too much of time stoning. Started in the morning with the secondary school circuit, RI sent two teams which came in first and second.  My team was the only RJ representative for the junior college circuit, but we ran our way to First place, winning ourselves an iPod Nano and a medal each.  The competition ended with the tertiary institution circuit.  While the different circuits were held, the remaining people who had nothing to do were left to rot in Mendel’s LT and treated to Paprika (anime) and Ratatouille.

Ha, but we won nonetheless.  I’m happy!

Com Sci Weekly Party Meeting

Posted in Life, School tagged , at 10:08 pm by incstint

I think the club rocks.

Since we took over, we had been a revolutionary exco, trying out different reforms measures to find one that fits the club.  Our radical reform (First 5 Week Plan a.k.a The Leap Forward) didnt work out at all.  Our members are not accustomed to self-directed learning, neither are they willing to share knowledge in the form of mutual presentation and tutorials.

Then came the long period of complete inactivity due to the club exco being involved in external events.  During our meeting today, we reestablish the exco’s ideology of self-directed applications of knowledge skills and unveiled the commune concept.  We grouped members into tiny commune each one with their own projects based on the group’s expertise, hopeful that while trying to complete their projects (i.e. web creation for other organisations/clubs) they can learn and increase their depth in the related skills.

This Second 5 Week Plans will be tested out to see its effectiveness in aiding learning with the exco painting a very beauiful picture our expectations of Com Sci Club in the near future.  This is the latest measure that we are adopting to get as many members actively involved as possible, although what eventually turns out 5 weeks later is very big unknown.  To end off, I would like to say that what we are doing now is essentially similar to the Chinese transition from a planned to a free economy, both adopting the concept of “Mo zhe shi tou guo he” (Crossing the river while groping the stones under foot).  We have to take each step carefully, one at a time, with the ultimate aim of reaching the opposite bank and gain significant IT skills by the time we graduate from school.

Didn’t had the time, the money to play paintball.  This weekend is spent idling away, and trying to catch up on the past 7 months of school work.  I feel depressed.

Ouch!

I counted 11 bruises on my upper body.  Surprisingly, this time i have no hits under the waist.
Reffing is bad, I always end up in the line of fire and receive whatever balls that fail to hit the guy in front.

RD5 was today. RD5 is a 5-man paintball league, but every team today fielded only 4 players.  Haha.

Round 1
Game 1   Red Sevens   vs   DamWargh!XXL 1   - Red Sevens
Game 2   DamWargh!XXL 2   vs   Kamikaze   – DamWargh!XXL 2
Game 3   Red Sevens   vs   DamWargh!XXL 2 – DamWargh!XXL 2
Game 4   Kamikaze   vs  DamWargh!XXL 1 – DamWargh!XXL 1
Game 5   Red Sevens   vs   Kamikaze – Kamikaze

Game 6   DamWargh!XXL 2   vs   DamWargh!XXL 1 – DamWargh!XXL 2

Round 2
Game 7   Red Sevens   vs   DamWargh!XXL 1 – DamWargh!XXL 1
Game 8   DamWargh!XXL 2   vs   Kamikaze – DamWargh!XXL 2
Game 9   Red Sevens   vs   DamWargh!XXL 2 – Red Sevens
Game 10   Kamikaze   vs  DamWargh!XXL 1 – DamWargh!XXL 1
Game 11   Red Sevens   vs   Kamikaze – Red Sevens

Game 12   DamWargh!XXL 2   vs   DamWargh!XXL 1 – DamWargh!XXL 2

We lost some games because of poor communication.  One game had cheeyong eliminated off the break.
I have lots to improve in terms of communication, apparently the noise of balls breaking on bunkers and markers firing were drowning my shouting.  I need to work on my team communications.
1. No more running up w/o telling teammates.
2. Shout at the top of my voice, if not shout to the nearest team mate to relay the message across the field.
3. I need to think on my feet, no more running up and then start wondering what to do next.
4. Train my guts, stop freaking out when streams of balls start flying overhead and all around.

Problems and Challenges

Posted in Life, School, random tagged , , , , at 12:14 am by incstint

Things can go wrong anytime, anywhere in school.

PW lesson was screwed up today. Rather, I screwed the lesson up for myself.
I finally realised the importance of filing, but habits die hard… I’m still trying to get myself accustomed to the idea of putting notes, worksheets etc in order.

When things go wrong, we used to call them problems.  In Singapore today, we call them challenges.
“No problems will remain unsolved, only challenges that pushes us to our limits.”  That’s why life is more miserable now than before.  Even the term “challenging questions” has been used to replace the “maths problems” that I used to see in my notes.  As our abilities rise to meet OLD expectations, expectations goes higher to test our abilities, resulting in a never ending climb to infinity.

It is not that I’m against the continual upgrading of ourselves, but the quest for knowledge has degraded into a paper chase, where your achievements printed in black and white decides your destiny.  To survive in modern Singapore, I shall start to work hard, work smart, but I will not forget about playing hard and reserving time to pursue my non-academic interests.
