Priority seats.
If you haven’t been noticing, priority seats label has been appearing on the seats nearest to the train doors.
Is this system going to work? Melvin and I discussed this matter based on the issues of incentives vs disincentives.
Before the ‘priority seats’, when a person in need of the seat (an elderly, a pregnant lady, a parent carrying a baby etc) boards the train, there is an incentive to give up your seat to the person. If no one offers his/her seat because of personal comfort, there will somehow be a feeling of guilt in him/her. The incentive of not bearing the guilt of leaving the needy soul standing, will push young-abled people to stand up and offer the seat. That is about twenty possible seat-givers for two rows of seats.
Now, with the ‘priority seats’, the incentive to offer the seat only falls on four people for two rows of seats. On the specially labeled seats, one will face stares if he/she does not give up the seat. This is definitely a stronger incentive for seat-giving because the seat-givers are pre-designated. However, for the other people not on the priority seats, it gives them a disincentive to offer the seat becuase our mentality will switch to think that “it is not our duty to offer our seats because THOSE four are supposed to stand up”. The ‘not us’ mentality removes the guilt factor (emotional cause) raised up in the previous paragraph.
With and without the priority seats, there would be people offering their seats. But the question of human emotional elements vs systematic designation arises. The same results, but different means. Which do you think will be better for society? You decide.

Staring hurts
I know i have a chin laceration, stiched up behind a white bandage.
Things that are not normal occurances always draw attention. That I do not disagree. But staring hurts.
It’s okay to take a second glance, maybe a third for some. But please don’t stare.
I do occasionally take a second look at the person on wheelchair or the old man singing by the road, curiosity cannot be helped, but that is where self control comes in.
Staring hurts. It hurts me, just as it would hurt your pathetic little eyes.

Maths club can’t type
I’m taking time off from studying maths to type this.
Maths club can’t type. Their summary notes contain loads of typo.
The more i study their notes, the more typo i find.
I hope that the people who read the notes are smart enough to spot them.
Back to maths.

NDP08
The parade segment was nicely done. Didnt remember seeing what the umbrellas in the UG-peeps hands were for, but the overall parade lived up to expectation. PDS was damn cool, damn stylo.
Show segment was a lil bit boring. Couldn’t compare to Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony.
Time to sleep.
