Priority seats.

Posted in Life, random tagged at 12:22 am by incstint

If you haven’t been noticing, priority seats label has been appearing on the seats nearest to the train doors.
Is this system going to work? Melvin and I discussed this matter based on the issues of incentives vs disincentives.

Before the ‘priority seats’, when a person in need of the seat (an elderly, a pregnant lady, a parent carrying a baby etc) boards the train, there is an incentive to give up your seat to the person. If no one offers his/her seat because of personal comfort, there will somehow be a feeling of guilt in him/her. The incentive of not bearing the guilt of leaving the needy soul standing, will push young-abled people to stand up and offer the seat. That is about twenty possible seat-givers for two rows of seats.

Now, with the ‘priority seats’, the incentive to offer the seat only falls on four people for two rows of seats. On the specially labeled seats, one will face stares if he/she does not give up the seat. This is definitely a stronger incentive for seat-giving because the seat-givers are pre-designated. However, for the other people not on the priority seats, it gives them a disincentive to offer the seat becuase our mentality will switch to think that “it is not our duty to offer our seats because THOSE four are supposed to stand up”. The ‘not us’ mentality removes the guilt factor (emotional cause) raised up in the previous paragraph.

With and without the priority seats, there would be people offering their seats. But the question of human emotional elements vs systematic designation arises. The same results, but different means. Which do you think will be better for society? You decide.

Staring hurts

Posted in Life, random tagged at 3:56 pm by incstint

I know i have a chin laceration, stiched up behind a white bandage.

Things that are not normal occurances always draw attention. That I do not disagree. But staring hurts.
It’s okay to take a second glance, maybe a third for some. But please don’t stare.
I do occasionally take a second look at the person on wheelchair or the old man singing by the road, curiosity cannot be helped, but that is where self control comes in.
Staring hurts. It hurts me, just as it would hurt your pathetic little eyes.

Class outing

Posted in 09S06O, Paintball tagged , at 11:38 am by incstint

Class outings are always so fun.  Watched Painted Skin.  The movie was nice, the romance was touching, the action was there, and I would have like it much more if the movie wasn’t so freaking long.  Zhou Xun was a great choice for the Xiao Wei, given that fox spirits in chinese tales are always beautiful in their human form.

The other time I watched a movie by Zhou Xun was Baober in Love *Warning! Nudity in movie* , where she plays a young girl coping with childhood traumas.  Baober in Love touches on the theme change, more specifically the rapid changes that china is going through.

Going back to Painted Skin, the movie is too draggy for my liking.  I actually took out my handphone thrice to look at the time, wondering what time the movie will end.  Exciting, touching, but a bit too long.

After the movie, the class went to celebrate sheryl’s birthday.  I left to collect my mask from Ming, whom i tried to meet for so many times.  Came back, ate dinner, then stone.  This class seems slow in decision making, and decisions are always made simultaneously by two different grps of ppl – guys and gals.  Anyway, what followed was The Long March from taka to merlion park.  It’s a crazy walk but night walks are fun, even more so with the class.

Went home to examine my mask.  E-vents look damn cool lah.  The lens so easy to take out somemore.  Die, no more money to play paintball anymore.  BMO and SPNS registration ate up my monies, but it’s worth spending on things i enjoy doing.  I need a job.

Maths club can’t type

Posted in School, random tagged at 8:03 pm by incstint

I’m taking time off from studying maths to type this.

Maths club can’t type. Their summary notes contain loads of typo.
The more i study their notes, the more typo i find.
I hope that the people who read the notes are smart enough to spot them.

Back to maths.

“I left my handphone in the airport!”
“I forgot my luggage!”
They forgot their four year old daughter.

Parents forget child at airport

What the heck are the parents thinking?  How the heck did they forget their child and fly off?  Home alone for a four year old girl?

EDB RJC Entre Challenge.  Wa! The judges comment damn fierce sia…
But they make sense, and I learnt a lot form all their questions. Makes me wonder why we didn’t think of those points before the presentation.

Went back RI to help with NDP parade rehearsal.  The NPCC parade commander was damn funny, he used “Pagi-Pagi” to refer to flag party. When I heard him shout I was thinking of replying “good morning”
I’m sure panji-panji can pronounce until pagi-pagi lah.

I wonder how my school’s flag party will be like…
